Nagroda Grammy w kategorii Best Traditional Blues Album jest przyznawana od 1983 roku, z przerwą w latach 2012-2016 (wówczas ta kategoria została połączona razem z kategorią Best Traditional Blues Album w jedną – Best Blues Album). W latach 2001–2003 nagroda przyznana również producentom i inżynierom muzycznym. Do 1992 roku nagroda znana jako Best Traditional Blues Performance i dwa razy została przyznana za pojedynczy utwór, a nie cały album.
