Kent Smith foi un actor d'Estaos Xuníos con una amplia trayeutoria artística en cine, teatru y televisión.

Biografía Carrera Smith debutó en 1932 en Broadway, cola obra dramática Men Must Fight. En pasando unos años actuando en diverses representaciones treslladóse a Hollywood, onde llogró'l so primer papel na película The Garden Murder Case (1936), basada na novela homónima de S.S. Van Dine. Empezó nel mundu del cine interpretando papeles en filmes de serie B, xeneralmente encarnando a personaxes duros y honestos.

El so primer ésitu na gran pantalla llegaría interpretándo-y al arquiteutu Oliver Reed nel filme d'horror Cat People (1942), dirixíu por Jacques Tourneur, onde compartiría cartelu cola actriz francesa Simone Simon. Al añu siguiente confirma'l so bon momentu en títulos como Hitler's Children (1943), d'Edward Dmytryk, y This Land Is Mine (1943), de Jean Renoir, dambes con una fuerte fonderada antinazi.

En 1944 vuelve interpretar a Oliver Reed en The Curse of the Cat People (1944), una secuela de Cat People dirixida por Robert Wise. Al añu siguiente intervién nel thriller psicolóxicu The Spiral Staircase (1945), de Robert Siodmak, onde da vida al Dr. Parry. Na segunda metá de los años 40, Smith coprotagoniza destacaos filmes, como'l melodrama The Fountainhead (1949), xunto a Gary Cooper y Patricia Neal; My Foolish Heart (1949), con Susan Hayward y Dana Andrews; y The Damned Don't Cry! (1950), con Joan Crawford. A partir de los años 50 trabaya principalmente en producciones televisives, tornando dacuando a la gran pantalla en papeles secundarios, como nel melodrama Sayonara de Logan Joshua (1957), protagonizáu por Marlon Brando, el filme d'aventures The Badlanders (1958) de Delmer Daves –adautación del western policiacu The Asphalt Jungle (1950)–, y la cinta The Mugger (1958) de Nicholas Ray. La so última apaición tuvo llugar na película Billy Jack Goes to Washington (1977).

Ente les sos apaiciones televisives más recordaes alcuéntrase la serie Caravana (1957-1960), Perry Mason (1961-1963), Gunsmoke (1963-1964), Rawhide (1959-1964) y, especialmente, Peyton Place, onde encarna'l papel del Dr. Robert Morton en 44 episodios ente 1964 y 1966. Coles mesmes ye reseñable la serie de ciencia-ficción The Invaders, onde intervién en 13 episodios ente 1967 y 1968.

En Broadway, Kent Smith algamó l'ésitu con obres como Dodsworth (1934), Saint Joan (1936), Antony and Cleopatra (1948) o Bus Stop (1956).

Vida privada Smith tuvo casáu cola actriz Betty Gillette dende 1937 hasta 1954, y darréu con Edith Atwater de 1962 hasta la so muerte, sobrevenida por causa de un fallu cardiacu en Woodland Hills (California), a la edá de 78 años.
