Charles Sheffield, (Hull, Inglaterra, 25 de xunu de 1935 - Rockville, MD 2 de payares de 2002), foi un físicu y escritor de ciencia ficción inglés.
Biografía
Charles Sheffield, en graduándose colos máximos honores en matemátiques y física nel St John College de la Universidá de Cambridge, doctorar en física teórica na Universidá de Washington. Como científicu foi conseyeru de la Oficina d'Evaluación Teunolóxica del Congresu d'EE.XX. ya investigador principal y consultor de la National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), pa quien analizó l'efectu del campu gravitatorio de la Lluna sobre un vehículu espacial nos años 60. Foi presidente de la American Astronautical Society. Sirvió tamién como direutor científicu y miembru del conseyu de la Earth Satellite Corporation antes de dedicase puramente a la lliteratura. Tres enviudar de Sarah Sanderson (finada en xunu de 1977) y divorciase de Linda Zall, casóse cola tamién escritora de ciencia ficción Nancy Kress. Tuvo cuatro fíos.
Como escritor de ciencia ficción, foi unu de los representantes por excelencia de la ciencia ficción dura. Empezó la so carrera cuasi a los 40 años y, anque la so intención foi publicar namái trés histories, namái por demostrar que podía, publicó 27 noveles y 6 escoyetes de rellatos. El so primer manuscritu, de menos de 10.000 pallabres, foi refugáu por munchos editores hasta apaecer na revista Galaxy como 'What Song the Sirens Sang'.
Ente los sos gallardones destaca'l premiu John W. Campbell Memorial de 1993 consiguíu cola novela Brother to Dragons (inédita en castellán). El mesmu añu 'Georgia on my mind' llogró los premios Hugo y Nebula.
Tamién foi presidente ente 1984 y 1986 de l'Asociación d'escritores de ciencia ficción y fantasía d'Estaos Xuníos.
