Ptychotherates („ohnutý lovec“) byl rod starobylého, vývojově primitivního dinosaura z kladu Herrerasauria. Žil v období pozdního triasu (pozdní nor až rét, asi před 215 až 201 miliony let). Jeho fosilie byly objeveny v sedimentech souvrství Chinle na území Nového Mexika (na proslulé lokalitě Ghost Ranch).
Objev Typovým exemplářem je téměř kompletní lebka, která nese sbírkové označení CM 31368 a byla objevena na hromadném naleziští se stovkami koster primitivního teropoda druhu Coelophysis bauri. Nový druh Ptychotherates bucculentus byl formálně popsán v dubnu roku 2026.Srivastava, S.; Nesbitt, S. J. (2026). Papers in Palaeontology. 12 (2) e70069. Jedná se o jednoho z vývojově nejprimitivnějších známých dinosaurů, ačkoliv nepatří mezi nejstarší známé druhy.
Klasifikace Ptychotherates byl zřejmě příbuzný druhům Tawa hallae, Daemonosaurus chauliodus a Chindesaurus bryansmalli. Společně s těmito taxony vytváří nově stanovený klad Morphoraptora, sesterský k čeledi Herrerasauridae.Marsh, A. D.; et al. (2019).
