Pozemní hranice Německo sdílí pozemní hranice s devíti sousedními zeměmi, celková délka činí 3621 km:
Na severu hraničí Německo s Dánskem, společná hranice, dělící Jutskou šíji na dvě části, je dlouhá pouze 68 km; Na západě, jihu a východě tvoří hranice souvislou linii 3553 km, postupně oddělující Německo od Nizozemska, Belgie, Lucemburska, Francie, Švýcarska, Rakouska, České republiky a Polska.
Německá hranice má tři geopolitická specifika:
Na německo-belgických hranicích odděluje železniční trať Vennbahn pod belgickou svrchovaností pět německých enkláv v Belgii; Německé město Büsingen am Hochrhein leží ve Švýcarsku; Rakouská obec Jungholz je se zbytkem země spojena pouze jedním bodem, vrcholem Sorgschrofen, čímž v Německu vytváří rakouskou kvazi-enklávu.
Námořní hranice Severní hranici Německa tvoří pobřeží na Severním moři západně od Jutska a na Baltském moři na východě. S následujícími 5 zeměmi byly podepsány smlouvy o námořních hranicích:
