Le Directors Guild of America Award de la meilleure réalisation pour un film () est un prix remit depuis 1949 par la Directors Guild of America (nommée jusqu'en 1960 la Screen Directors Guild) durant ses prix annuels.
C'est le prix le plus ancien de la guilde, qui avait un conflit avec l'Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences et qui souhaitait s'en démarquer.
Excepté pour les trois premières cérémonies, le prix est souvent vu comme un indicateur pour les Oscars du fait que le palmarès des DGA Awards s'en écarte rarement.
Jusqu'en 1970, le prix appliquait une présélection avant les nominations, les films recalés avant les nominations sont dits du trimestre, puis intitulés finalistes.
