Les différents auteurs le considèrent cependant comme séparé des familles des Mawsoniidae et des Latimeriidae Gaël Clément, « A New Coelacanth (Actinistia, Sarcopterygii) from the Jurassic of France, and the question of the closest relative fossil to Latimeria », Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, vol. 25, No. 3 (sep. 30, 2005), pp. 481-491, https://www.jstor.org/stable/4524470?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents Forey, Peter L., « History of the coelacanth fishes », Londres ; Weinheim ; New York : Chapman & Hall, 1998, XIII-419 p.
