Historique Le prix est décerné pour la première fois au cours de la deuxième édition de la récompense annuelle. Il n'est pas décerné en 1991, mais revient à partir de la quatrième édition.
Depuis le prix Lambda Literary, quand le nombre de candidats au prix est assez élevé, le prix est divisé en un prix « Enfance et jeunesse » et un prix« Young Adult ».
