Jeunesse et formation Max Aronson est le fils de Henry Aronson, un commis voyageur, d'origine allemande et de Esther Ash Aronson d'origine russe, tous les deux sont de confession juive.
Carrière En 1903, Gilbert M. Anderson participe comme acteur dans le premier western de l'histoire du cinéma réalisé par Edwin S. Porter : Le Vol du grand rapide, où il tient trois rôles dont le rôle principal. Pour Roger Boussinot, il mérite , bien qu'il ne soit jamais monté à cheval avant son premier filmL'Encyclopédie du Cinéma, Roger Boussinot, Ed. Bordas, 1980 .
En 1907, il fonde avec , The Essanay Film Manufacturing Company, l'une des premières sociétés de production cinématographique américaines. Il abandonne l'Essenay en 1916, et joue dans quelques comédies avec Stan Laurel avant de se retirer du monde du cinéma.
