Az Australoheros a sugarasúszójú halak (Actinopterygii) osztályának sügéralakúak (Perciformes) rendjébe, ezen belül a bölcsőszájúhal-félék (Cichlidae) családjába tartozó nem.
Tudnivalók Az Australoheros-fajok Délkelet-Brazília, Paraguay, Uruguay és Északkelet-Argentína folyóiban és patakjaiban találhatók meg. Legalább egy fajuk tavakban és mocsarakban is fellelhető.
