Дипломирал економија на Московскиот државен универзитет „ М.Ломоносов” (1984-1989) во Русија, а исто така дипломира економија и финансии во Франција и Швајцарија (1990-1996). Докторирал на Институтот по економија на Бугарската Академија на Науките (БАН)http://www.bas.bg/cgi-bin/e-cms/vis/vis.pl?s=001&p=0200 БАН1995. Во периодот 1988-1989 работи во комисијата на СИВ во Москва-Русија. Работи како финансист(специјалист по финансии) во SOGENAL, Луксембург (1994).Предава Теорија на парите и Меѓународни финансии на Универзитетот за национално и светско стопанство на катедра „Финансии и сметководство„ – Софија од 1997г. Исто така е Професор и на Универзитетот во Орлеан Франција од 2000г. Асоциран истражувач е во ICERhttp://www.icer.it/ ICER, Торино од 2006г. Од 1 Септември 2012г. Николај Неновски ќе биде професор во University of Picardie Jules VerneUniversité de Picardie Jules Verne, катедра „Финансии и сметководство CRIISEA CRIISEA , Amiens, France.
Работи во Бугарска Народна Банка (БНБ)http://www.bnb.bg/index.htm?toLang=_EN/ БНБ, од 1996г, а во периодот од 2002г. до 2008г. е член на Управниот совет на (БНБ). Основни области на истражувања на Проф. Д-р. Николај Неновски се Парична теорија и Парична политика, Историја на економската мисла и политичка економија. Истражувањата се насочени кон проблемите на паричните режими во Источна Европа, на паричниот совет во Р.Бугарија и проширување на еврозоната. Избран е од XL Народно собрание за подуправител(заменик гувернер) на БНБ. На 20.08.2009г. XLI–то Народно собрание го промени решението за избор на Проф. Д-р Николај Неновски за заменик гувернер на БНБ.
