В составе международной группы зоологов (Морис Коттела из Швейцарии, Тан Хеок Ху из Национального университета Сингапура, Кай-Эрик Витте из Германии и Ральф Бритц из Великобритании) нашёл в болотах острова Суматра самую маленькую рыбу на Земле. Вид, названный , отнесен к семейству Карповых (Cyprinidae). Их тело прозрачно, а голова не имеет костного черепа. Самцы имеют крупные тазовые плавники и исключительно развитые мышцы, которые используются для захвата самок во время совокупления. Рыба обитает в кислых торфяных болотах острова Суматры, pH воды в которых равен 3.
