Thyreus — род пчёл из трибы Melectini семейства Apidae.
Описание Пчёлы-кукушки, паразитирующие на других видах пчёл, собирающих пыльцу и нектар, в основном на представителях рода Amegilla и, возможно, на Anthophora и Eucera. Некоторые виды имеют необычную яркую окраску, например, австралийская Неоновая пчела-кукушка , сочетает голубоватые и чёрные волоски на теле.
Они достигают длины тела от 7 до 15 миллиметров. Обычно пчёлы-кукушки черные с заметными пятнами белых волосков на голове, груди, брюшке и ногах. Они очень похожи на близкородственных траурных пчёл (Melecta), но отличаются от них тем, что имеют уплощенный щиток, выступающий далеко назад, и пучок волосков посередине. Пчёл-кукушек невозможно различить друг от друга в полевых условиях по внешним признакам.
Распространение Старый Свет. Пчёлы-кукушки распространены от Северной Африки через южную и центральную Европу и Азию до Австралии и Соломоновых островов. Они встречаются рядом со своими хозяевами, например Thyreus orbatus, или в качестве паразита Anthophora quadrimaculata на глиняных стенах и стенах. В Центральной Европе пчёлы-кукушки дают одно поколение в июле — августе. На этом континенте они очень редки.
Образ жизни Имаго пчёл-кукушек полилектичны, то есть питаются нектаром и пыльцой различных растений. Во сне представители обоих полов обычно цепляются челюстями за части растений. Личинки паразитируют на земляных пчёл рода Anthophora. Вероятно, они окукливаются без кокона. Откладка яиц происходит, как и у пчёл рода Melecta. Самки проникают в гнездо хозяина и откладывают яйцо в уже запечатанную расплодную ячейку, прокалывая крышку ячейки яйцеводом.
