Je zložené z dvoch liniek - zo zelenej (Airport - South Hylton) a žltej (St James - South Shields). Metro je dlhé 77,7 km a denne ho použije asi 104 tisíc cestujúcich.
Na zelenej linke je 31 staníc a na žltej 40 staníc.
