Willem de Sitter (* 6. máj 1872, Sneek, Holandsko – † 20. november 1934, Leiden, Holandsko) bol holandský matematik, fyzik a astronóm.
Život a práca Narodil sa v mestečku Sneek. Študoval matematiku na univerzite v Groningene a neskôr sa pripojil k astronomickému laboratóriu Groningen. V rokoch 1897 – 1899 pracoval v Kapskom observatóriu v Južnej Afrike. V roku 1908 bol zvolený za člena predsedníctva astronomickej fakulty na univerzite v Leiden. Bol riaditeľom observatória Leiden od roku 1919 až do svojej smrti.
De Sitter je známy najmä pre svoj obrovský prínos v oblasti fyzikálnej kozmológie. V roku 1932 bol s Albertom Einsteinom spoluautorom práce, v ktorej predpokladali existenciu veľkého množstva hmoty, ktorá nevyžaruje žiarenie, v súčasnosti nazývanej temná hmota. Vytvoril aj koncept De Sitterovho priestoru a De Sitterovho vesmíru, riešenia Einsteinovej všeobecnej relativity, v ktorom nie je žiadna hmota a má pozitívnu kozmologickú konštantu. Výsledkom je exponenciálne sa rozpínajúci, prázdny vesmír. De Sitter je tiež známy pre výskum Jupitera.

Aernout de Sitter Jeho syn, Aernout de Sitter (1905 - 15. september 1944Notes of Astronomers at www.astro.uni-bonn.de), bol riaditeľom Bosscha Observatory v Lembangu, Indonézia (vtedy Holandská východná India), kde študoval guľovú hviezdokopu M4.
