Životopis Syn astronóma Harlowa Shapleyho získal doktorát v roku 1954 na Princeton University. Ako ekonóm pracoval od roku 1948, s prestávkou (19501953), do roku 1981 pre RAND Corporation. Od roku 1981 pôsobil ako profesor na University of California v Los Angeles. Medzi jeho významné príspevky vede patrí Shapleyova hodnota a Shapley-Shubikov index.Lloyd S.
