Видавництво було засновано 1905 року Вітні Дерроу з фінансовою підтримкою видавця Чарльза Скрібнера. 1912 року було опубліковано першу книгу, нею стало видання Лекції з моральної філософії («Lectures on Moral Philosophy») Джона Візерспуна).
