Апісанне Вусікі 8-членікавыя з рэдукцыя да 5 сегментаў. Ад іншых трыпсаў адрозніваюцца адсутнасцю мікрашчацінак (microtrichia) на пярэдніх крылах і трубчастым апошнім 10-м брушным сегментам. Вылучаюць 2 падсямействы: Idolothripinae (700 відаў і 80 родаў; харчуюцца спорамі грыбоў) і Phlaeothripinae (2800 відаў і 370 родаў;). У падсямействе Phlaeothripinae вылучаюць тры эвалюцыйныя лініі (Haplothrips, Liothrips і Phlaeothrips) (Mound and Marullo 1996). Лінія Haplothrips у апошні час вызначана ў якасці трыбы Haplothripini (Mound and Minaei 2007, Minaei and Mound 2008), члены якой фітафагі, але некаторыя віды Haplothrips драпежнікі, харчуюцца дробнымі членістаногімі.
